Unexpected Blessing! It's Moving Day!

Aaron called last night and said he had two guys coming this morning about 9 to help move. Another one was able to come about 11. It was amazing how quickly they got things done. I told them they shouldn't ever charge by the hour because they were so speedy, even carrying my EXTREMELY heavy desk upstairs. Aaron said this was the last time he was moving it so it stays with the house.

The guys started at 9 and were finished by noon. We cooked some hamburgers for them and by 1:00 they were gone and Kim and I were standing there looking at all the boxes. He helped me cut shelf and drawer liner and the unpacking started.

one of the first things I unpacked is my favorite painting by Mother

not much left in the dining room either

I mentioned yesterday that we didn't get the storm but Juniper wasn't so lucky. They had tornado warnings and large hail. I just saw on the news that Denton had the largest hail in the Metroplex - as large as 4 1/4". She had a couple of broken windows.

Aaron almost drove right into it but called us to check on the path and was able to turn around and wait it out.

I walked over 6.5 miles and more than 16,000 steps today. I will be doing nothing but unpacking for the next many days! Remember that picture of the office further up? Well it has to be completely unpacked for Penelope and Gene to stay this weekend. Busy, busy, busy.

Haven't Moved Yet

We didn't move in as planned on Thursday but hopefully we will get moved this week. We don't have satellite or wifi at the new house yet, so we're not in a huge hurry. Apparently, Direct TV doesn't allow their employees to get on the roof and that's where they need to be to install the dish. We've scheduled two appointments (the second time they were well aware they needed to get on the roof) only to have them get here and tell us they can't get on the roof. Not sure where we'll go from here.

Kim continues to complete existing tasks on the house (i.e. installing shower doors, cabinet knobs, lights, etc.) and I've been moving a few things over and cleaning. All these windows are great for the view but not so great when it comes to cleaning them. UGH!

the view from our nice clean windows - it lasted about an hour before the sky spit little mud balls on them

We had another unexpected issue related to the leaky connection. Kim drilled some holes in the cabinet and wall to ensure everything was dry only to find black mold. He cut the back out of the cabinet and pulled the insulation out to get rid of the mold. He was able to talk to a certified mold remover who told him what to do. So, he's spent many hours on his knees taking care of that problem.

I stenciled the walls in the living room in lieu of carrying the crown molding around the room.

Aaron came over Friday night to help move our chairs and bed over.

I was able to finish one of the stained glass panels in my last class on Saturday. I'm very pleased with the outcome (especially for a first effort).

We're under a tornado watch so we quickly moved stuff around in the garage (our workroom for the past year) to get my car in. First time in it's new home.

Now that it's done, it looks like the storm is going around us. We could use the rain but sure don't want the tornado!

Well it's on to shelf and drawer liner and continuing to move the things over that I can manage.

Sorry So Long...

I realize it's been a long time since I posted an update. I've had the flu and still have a horrible cough but hopefully, I'm on the mend.

Since the last post Kim has installed all the appliances, undercounter lights, bifold doors in mudroom and master closets, worked on ceiling fans and plumbing.

my cute little fan in the sewing room

I had ordered a beautiful and very unusual ceiling fan for the living room. It was expensive so I waited patiently for it to go on sale. Kim worked hours and hours installing it and trying to get the wobble out. He made numerous calls to customer support, ordered new fan blades and it still didn't work. We sent it back for a replacement and after spending more time installing it something was wrong with the motor. It made a horrible scraping sound. So, down it came. We have a different fan coming on Monday. It's not as unique but hopefully will be an easy install and work well.

Remember the white fixture that I did the copper/verdi gris finish on? Here it is!

We had a nice surprise last week. The flooring guy had an opening he could squeeze our job into and showed up one month early.

Kim finally took a day off to go fishing!!!

Here is the plumbing Kim has been working on. We now have a water softener and whole house water filter.

I got all the glass cut for the two cabinet doors, so I'm ready for my second class and working with lead. The pieces that look white are actually clear seedy glass and what looks brown is red.

I think the plan is to move in a week from tomorrow. Aaron is going to bring some of his firemen buddies over to make quick work of it. We'll make sure they get a good meal out of it. I have lots and lots of cleaning to do between now and then.
