A Few More Move-in Pics

We're about to get settled in now, although still have a list of things to do - some fairly quick but others will be time consuming (bunk beds and retaining wall for sure).

enjoying the sunrise from the back porch

last of the cabinet glass installed

one stained glass panel installed - will upload another photo when we get a light behind it

mirror hung in the guest bath

office cleaned up but still about five small boxes in the closet to unpack 😞

stained glass window installed in upstairs bath - it was damaged in the move so will have to try my hand at stained glass repair (maybe), one of the clear panes is shattered

towel hooks for upstairs bath - there's another one on the other side of the bath

upstairs hardware installed

this is one of the stained glass panels I'm doing for the mud room - there are four of them

Now for a few Easter pics. Our first family dinner in the new house.
Daddy made me this cross from some of the cedar we cut down to build the house.

Jen and family, who went camping and Sarah and family who were with Gabe's family

Sawyer, Bailyn, Saige & Grady getting ready to hunt eggs

and they're off!!!

After the last post I heard from my uncle Bill (Mother's little brother) who lives in Minnesota. He provided some additional information and pics about Grandmother's china and everyday dishes. I think you'll enjoy reading about it as much as I did.

This is Mother and Daddy's wedding picture and if you look closely, you will see the dessert plates from Grandmother's china to the left of their hands.

This photo is a couple of Bill's friends who were visiting him in Hobbs in 1951. The china sugar bowl is in this picture. So, it appears that Grandmother's china was used at least for special occasions prior to her getting the Vernon ware dishes below.

Bill thinks this set was probably started after 1951 and no later than 1954. Every time I see it I remember the smell of buttered toast at their house. It is as clear in my mind as if I was sitting in their kitchen eating breakfast. Vernon Kilns produced this pottery (Homespun Vernon Ware) in the 30's, 40's & 50's, so it is around 70 yrs. old.

My granddaddy made this lamp. We had it hanging at the cabin in Cloudcroft for many years and when we sold the cabin, I became the proud recipient. It was slightly damaged in the move but nothing that can't be repaired. The electrician put in a box so we can hardwire it into the ceiling in the entry way instead of having the long chain plug into the wall. I'll upload another pic when it gets installed and is lit up. The slabs of rock are so interesting. I wish I knew what they all are.

Daddy came today and brought me these two beautiful planters that he put together as a housewarming gift.

They're sitting on each side of the front door.

I guess that's all for now.

A Few More Pics

In my last post, I failed to include this picture of the chef cooking burgers for the amazing guys who helped us move.

We spent the first night in our new house Wednesday, March 29th, and celebrated with a glass (or two) of champagne.

I'm slowly getting through all the boxes and have 4 boxes of donation items so far. I have 8 or 9 more boxes to unpack downstairs before I start on the upstairs. I need my organizer (Saige) to come help me organize my sewing/craft room.

Can you believe all of this to wrap one tea cup - bubble wrap, 3 full sheets of paper AND fabric?

My grandmother's china. It's about 80 years old and doesn't have a single chip or crack. Then again, I don't think she ever used it...

This is the cabinet specifically built to hold the china with seedy glass inserts. I picked up all the cabinet glass yesterday and Kim installed 18 pieces before supper. Only 9 more to go.

This is the bubble wrap and paper from one box of china!!! No wonder it's taking me so long to unpack!

A dear friend (Erica) that I made while working in the New York office, gave me this set as a retirement gift. We would often walk to a restaurant for lunch, trying different things, but mostly going to a particular Thai or Noodle shop. She's half Japanese, so this is a gift from her heritage as well as a lovely reminder of the many times we shared lunch.

I bought this rug last year and never even opened it up until I rolled it out in the kitchen last week. I had completely forgotten what it looked like and was thrilled with the real thing. It's almost an inch thick, 100% wool and feels amazing under my feet. I would love to have a big one for the living room but would have to save my pennies for a long, long time.

Kim got our shower door installed. It's a massive door and Aaron had to help carry it in.

Penelope, Gene and Bailyn stayed the weekend with us. Penelope and I decided to bake some peanut butter cookies right before she left on Sunday. I should have taken pics of Penelope and Bailyn watching movies and eating popcorn up in the game room. They had quite a time playing up there.

This is the gray and white opalescent glass in the kitchen cabinets.

More of the opalescent glass.

The living room and murphy bed have the antique looking seedy glass. You can see I've started to put a few things out. Terry and Elaine gave us this housewarming gift, a beautiful piece of coral that sits on a lighted stand.

Grady picked out a pink petunia potted plant (say that five times 🌝) as a housewarming gift for me. He was hilarious carrying it since it is almost as big as he is. Aaron gave Kim got a bottle of Blue Label Scotch.

Well, it's back to the boxes.
