Rain, Rain, Rain!

We got up to severe thunderstorms yesterday. There was much thunder, lightning and 2.6" of rain between 5 and 7 a.m. Kim quickly called the stone company to tell them to delay delivery of the stone. The ground was way too soft to stage it. Unfortunately, they already had it loaded and on its way, so they weren't too happy to turn around and go back. We figured the day would be a wash-out for anyone coming out to work. Surprisingly, the HVAC team showed up, followed shortly by the electricians. Then at noon, here came the roofers. So, in spite of the rain, there was much accomplished yesterday.

the overcast sky makes the gray paint on the chimney look green

The roofing material is an eco-friendly Eurolite Slate. It is designed to replicate a New England style slate roof and is made from 95% recycled material, mainly rubber from recycled tires. Hopefully, the hail will bounce right off. Kim told me last night that there are 20 nails in each shingle, which has 4 tabs. Doesn't it look great?

The roofers didn't quit until about 8:30 last night and showed back up at 7:30 this morning.

There was almost a traffic jam of work trucks in the drive.

I'm off to Lubbock to stay with Daddy for a week with no internet access, so the next post will be in June. Wow! Where has this year gone?

Exterior Painting Done!

In the last post I was off to get more paint and today the painters finished up the exterior! Another milestone. It wasn't without delays however. We had three days they couldn't work this week due to rain, and yesterday they opened up the last 5 gallon bucket only to find it was the wrong color. That required another trip to Decatur to exchange it for the right paint. Apparently they had used the wrong base and what should have been gray was purple. Yuck!

some time out for roasting hot dogs over the fire

and then marshmallows for s'mores - yummm!

Saige takes Bailyn and Grady for a ride on the 4-wheeler

LOVE the corbels - thank you Kim!!!

...and it's done! The Sherwin Williams paint colors are: fish scale shingles - Rushing River, shake shingles - Mountain Road, trim color - Useful Gray and the porch ceiling - Porch Ceiling (go figure).

HVAC supplies - he has worked a couple of days already and should be back this week.

The roofers are supposed to start tomorrow and stone is to be delivered in the morning; however, the forecast is for rain all week. We'll see...

The Framer is Done! A Huge Milestone

Yea!!!!! The framer finished up yesterday (May 11th), 3 1/2 weeks later than scheduled, due to rain, hail, a few architectural issues on the floor plans, and taking longer to put up all that siding than anticipated. This is a real milestone! The plumbers have also finished the top-out and tested all the lines, so we actually have water to the house, although faucets will be one of the last things installed, so, of course, the water is turned off. The painter started today. He has his work cut out for him with caulking, power-washing, and then painting. We'd like to get the painting done before the roof and stone work to avoid having to cover all that up. Below are some boring electrical and plumbing pics for documentation, as well as final pics of the framer's work.

Overhead Door out of Wichita Falls is coming by today to bring me color samples for the garage doors. The painter has estimated the amount of paint we need for each of the colors so I'm off to Sherwin Williams to pick up 17 more gallons to go with the 16 we purchased on Tuesday. Yikes! That's a lot of paint!
