Batten Down the Hatches!

Couldn't resist the pun! The battens are up on most of the wainscoting. We have to wait for the cabinets to go in before they can finish up the trim.

It's hard to tell from this picture but the window and door trim on this wall looks great!

starting the closets

This is my tiny closet.

It does have three hanging rows but I will need to keep a step stool handy.

My shoe rack.

Starting on the stairs

Oak treads and risers are installed,

The box newell just unpacked

...and looking down from the top

The landing at top of the stairs - leaving the plastic on the balusters until after the painters are done.

Doesn't it look great?

The tile guys started on the showers Wednesday (10/19) This is the guest bath shower after putting in the hardi backer.

The master bath shower.

the upstairs shower before hardi backer

We drove into Coppell yesterday to pick up all the tile and flooring. It was quite a load and a long day! Unfortunately, we had some damage to the wood flooring and one box of tile was completely broken.

It looks like fork lift damage to the wood flooring boxes

And here are all the boxes (72 of them) stacked in the garage.

Unloading the rest of the trailer

and truck

They must have dropped this box. I can understand why because this tile was so heavy I couldn't lift it.

All the supplies are unloaded and we are missing about 290 sq ft of flooring tile for the master and guest bathrooms and all the shower tile for the guest bath. Looks like another trip to Coppell.

The first tiles go up in the master bath

One wall of the upstairs shower is done.

I love this reclaimed wood look tile!

Three rows up and they're done for the day.

Grady says he is building a house too - in the sand pile. I bet he gets finished with his before we do.

The upcoming schedule is: finish the showers and tile floors by the end of next week, and the cabinets go in next week too, then the painting/staining begins. I'm going to guess that the tile and cabinet work won't actually be done until the middle of the following week, which will be around the first of November. The wood floors don't go down until after the painting and staining is done. That's not to mention countertops, fixtures and finishing up all the electrical work. BUT, I think we can finally see light at the end of the tunnel.

Stay tuned!
