The Beginning

Let me apologize up front for a lot of pictures that may be boring to you. Some of the photos are included for documentation purposes.

The background of this blog is a picture of our property taken in the fall of 2014. You can see we have a few trees on this 16 acres. The first order of business is marking the boundaries for our new house and then removing a few of those trees. By few, I mean well over 200. Kim has done the majority of the cutting, splitting and stacking of logs and burning brush with help from Aaron and a little help from me.

The first cut took place on September 29, 2015.

notice how dense and dark the foliage is in the background

wow - it sure looks different now (Oct 2nd)

and look at that stack of logs

When we first started burning brush we had to haul it to Aaron's property because of a burn ban in Montague County. Here is one of several loads.

It's the middle of November and the burn ban was finally lifted so we get to burn here - no more loading it on the trailer to haul off, yea!!!

On November 13th the crew arrived with all the materials to install the septic system.

drain pipe for the septic

gravel for the septic

septic tanks - much bigger than I expected

ran into some huge rock as they started digging so it took a bit longer than planned

what to do with all that rock - stay tuned for more on the solution

and they're in

you can see that we've removed a few trees from the background photo

Remember all that rock they dug up for the septic? I've devised a plan for a waterfall and fish pond. Kim rolls his eyes when I bring it up but hopefully someday water will be flowing. Obviously, it still needs a bit of work.
